Hi Friends!
I'm back for Day 2 of the Summer Lovin' Sale! Today, I'm putting this gem on sale:
Main Idea Mania is the first "big" project I ever made, and after using it two years in a row, I still LOVE it! Main idea is such a difficult skill to teach and for kids to wrap their heads around. What I love about this unit is how it's scaffolded. The goal is by the end of the unit, students can tell/write the main idea and supporting details of a nonfiction text.
It starts with identifying what's interesting vs. what's important. The next step is for students to identify the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the text. I've included several teaching posters and graphic organizers to practice these skills:
FOR TODAY (and tomorrow until I wake up) ONLY, I've marked this pack down 50%! That means that it's only $3.50 for all this goodness! WHAT WHAT?!?! Click here to check it out on TPT and add it to your cart.
Take a peek at what my bloggy pals are putting on sale today too!

Then the pack has 5 circle maps and coordinating writing paper. It's a great opportunity for students to use their prior knowledge to develop main idea. After that, there are twelve nonfiction passages: 8 are one paragraph, and 4 are multi-paragraph. They come in three different formats, again with the goal of scaffolding them. The first set has multiple choice answers. The second option asks students have to write a sentence telling the main idea. The third option requires students to tell the main idea and three supporting details. Here's a quick peek:
